Cape Lookout Lighthouse is located 3 miles off the North Carolina coast on the southern end of the Outer Banks. Accessible only by boat, its checkered daymark not only distinguishes it from other lighthouses, it also shows direction. The center of each black diamond points north-south, while the center of each white diamond points east-west. Its light can be seen from 12-19 miles out to sea. All photos taken September 4, 2016.
