Pilgrim UCC hosted 7 Latino children for 3 days each week this summer. The goal was to prevent the loss of English skills & expand academic horizons. Middle school children studied math & American geography. They read and discussed such books as Lois Lowry's, The Giver. They also worked on basic skills, such as vocabulary and punctuation. Elementary school children used “bridge” books to prepare for their next grade. Finally, there was time to play Uno, Monopoly, and other games – all while speaking English.
